Overview

Building Brains and Bodies

Brief

NSW Health wanted to develop an engaging, educational and accessible video series delivering key health messages about the first 2000 days of a child’s life. The videos needed to give parents from diverse backgrounds confidence and ‘permission’ to spend time playing with and nurturing their child, knowing that they are ‘building’ their baby’s brain.

Solution

We recruited, filmed and edited five educational videos communicating the latest age and developmental milestone information for parents of children across five age groups: 0-6 months, 6-12 months, 1-3 years and 3-5 years. We recruited 14 families from a range of multicultural backgrounds and worked with them to ensure that both parents and children were comfortable with the filming process. We captured a range of both informative and emotive footage, including parents playing with their children, childhood vaccinations, going to the dentist, reading, breastfeeding, sleep and mealtimes. From the footage, we also edited five shorter social videos, covering the topics of ‘Love’, ‘Talk’, ‘Sing’, ‘Read’ and ‘Play’. Once the videos were completed, they were translated into four languages. The footage was also compiled into a comprehensive video and stills library for NSW Health to use in future projects.
