At Laundry Lane, we have always believed that storytelling has the power to inform, connect and create change. For years, we have worked with organisations across health, social services and the not-for-profit sector to make complex information accessible and human.
Now, we are taking that belief one step further with Laundry Lane Learning, a new branch of our work dedicated to creating engaging, inclusive training content that helps people learn with empathy, confidence and understanding.
Why now
Across Australia, frontline teams are supporting people in increasingly complex situations. They are stretched thin, balancing empathy with efficiency and adapting to constant change.
While technology and AI can deliver information faster than ever before, they cannot replace empathy, authenticity or the understanding that comes from lived experience.
Recent research from Schoox (2024) found that 40 percent of frontline workers are unsure about their job expectations and only 24 percent feel confident they have the right training. That is a troubling reality. Too often, people are told what to do without the tools or awareness to connect with the people they serve.
That is the gap we want to help close.
Our approach
Statistics also show that using human storytelling in training improves learning recall by up to 22 times compared to facts and figures alone.
Our approach is grounded in a simple idea: great training connects head and heart. By weaving together storytelling, lived experience and thoughtful design, we help turn complex or sensitive topics into learning that feels authentic, relevant and easy to apply.
We have already seen how powerful this can be in areas such as bereavement care, community housing, mental health and patient support. When learning reflects real experiences, it changes understanding and helps build genuine connection.
Laundry Lane Learning focuses on two sides of the learning experience:
- Building capability and confidence for frontline professionals, helping them work effectively with diverse communities.
- Empowering service users, parents and patients with knowledge, tools and support to navigate challenging times in their lives.
Every project is a collaboration. We work closely with clients, subject matter experts and people with lived experience to ensure the learning is not just accurate but meaningful.
Why it matters
Training that connects information with empathy does more than improve performance. It builds trust, confidence and understanding across communities.
When professionals feel supported and learners see themselves reflected in the content, the impact goes far beyond the screen or the classroom. It shows up in the quality of care, in stronger relationships and in the way people show up for one another.
Impact in action
Our clients are already seeing the results of this approach.
“We identified a critical gap in supporting frontline health workers to provide bereavement care for families experiencing stillbirth or pregnancy loss. Laundry Lane partnered with us to create a powerful educational video series across seven key topics, translated into eight languages, to ensure accessibility and impact.” Red Nose Australia
